Ebony Osun Morris is originally from Oakland, California and a recent graduate from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) acquiring her bachelors of arts in Fine Art with a double minor in African American Studies and Global Studies. Her work interrogates the intersection of racial and cultural identity, femininity, familial ties, love, and memory. Morris explores the expressions of an individual and its intersection with the collective subconsciousness, using oil paints and figuration to interrogate notions of status and respectability politics. Photography, often of family and friends, is integral to her process, contemplating its historical significance in Black American homes as tools of representation and access. Drawing inspiration from passing moments and curated images, Morris seeks to construct a reality beyond imposed narratives of Black American identity, emphasizing self-identification and self-actualization within curated spaces.
